Our project is an innovative automated plant nursery designed to optimize and improve the process of planting, growing and packing plants using advanced robotics and environmentally friendly methods.
Seed Planting
The mobile production unit, contained within a 40-foot container, arrives at the farm. Inside this unit, robotic manipulators equipped with soft grippers and vacuum suction systems undertake the precise task of planting seeds into soil trays. These advanced manipulators manage the complete process, from filling the trays with soil, creating the holes for the seeds, accurately placing the seeds, and ensuring they are properly covered with soil. This automation ensures a high degree of precision and efficiency in the initial planting phase.
Initial Growth Phase
Once the seeds are planted, the trays are stacked within the controlled environment of the mobile unit, where they remain for a month. During this critical initial growth phase, the system meticulously monitors and maintains optimal conditions to promote seed germination and early growth. This controlled environment helps ensure that the seeds have the best possible start.
Transplanting
After the initial growth period, the seedlings are ready to be transplanted into larger pots. The robotic system carefully extracts the seedlings, prepares the larger pots with the appropriate amount of soil, and gently places the seedlings into these pots. This delicate process is handled with the same precision and care as the initial planting, ensuring that the young plants are not damaged during transplantation.
Extended Growth Phase
The transplanted seedlings are then placed in a designated growth area, which can be within the farm’s facilities or a shaded area prepared by the mobile unit. Here, the plants continue to grow for an additional 6-7 months. During this extended growth phase, the plants are periodically checked and maintained to ensure healthy development, this process done not only manually, but also with the use of our computer vision technology and our application, where users are able to see all the info online.
Packaging for Distribution
Once the plants have reached the desired maturity, the mobile unit returns for the final stage of the process: packaging. Robotic arms equipped with specialized attachments handle the packaging, which includes adding labels and preparing the plants for shipment. The system is also capable of providing detailed recommendations and metrics on plant care and growth throughout this entire process, adding significant value for the farmers.
